LeBron James and Kevin Durant will be selecting their teams tonight for the 2021 NBA All-star Game.
Durant, the captain for the East, won’t be playing in the contest, so he will have to craft a team based on other players’ talents. Durant will have the opportunity to select two of his Nets teammates- Kyrie Irving (a starter) and James Harden (a reserve).
James, who has been a captain in every All-star draft, will be looking to select players to complete his skillset and help him emerge victorious.
Here is whom I think each player will select:
Team LeBron | Team Durant |
LeBron James | Joel Embiid |
Stephen Curry | Kawhi Leonard |
Giannis Antetokounmpo | Kyrie Irving |
Luka Doncic | Bradley Beal |
Nikola Jokic | Jason Tatum |
Damian Lillard | James Harden |
Paul George | Chris Paul |
Ben Simmons | Zion Williamson |
Jaylen Brown | Zach Lavine |
Donovan Mitchell | Devin Booker |
Domantas Sabonis | Julius Randle |
Rudy Gobert | Nikola Vucevic |
Note: As the leading vote getter, James has first pick of reserves, and Durant gets first pick of the reserves. The starters are italicized. I drafted these rosters based on fit, not who is the best at the given time.
Highlights of the draft:
Durant:
- Gets both of his Nets teammates
- Gets the Knicks-Nets combo. with Randle
- Has a good blend of younger and older players
James:
- Finally gets to play with Curry
- Has almost an entirely Western Conference starting lineup
- Has two reserve big men and gets to play with Lillard
